It’s such a personal delight to happen across an unknown designer who doesn’t fit into the banal mainstream. Finding these designers always manages to renew my faith in the future of fashion given how overexposed everything feels these days.
So we all know by now that minimalism is the current darling of the fashion world and while my personal tastes tend to skew this way and always have, I appreciate and crave embellishment. I’ve played myself with embroidery and crochet in recent years, but haven’t had the time to produce anything worth posting since I don’t seem to have much time to create these days. Anyway, I was happy to discover Francesca Crow whose work is full of beautiful, original embellishment. She shares not only her collection but her sketches, photos from recent travels, and inspirations on her blog. It’s not clear what she’s currently up to, but I look forward to hearing more about her soon
Thanks to Estelle (great blog and she’s a jewelry designer too!) from One Perfect Morning for this stellar find. Many of you are probably familiar with Anna Sara Davik’s nail rings and gloves, since they’ve popped up quite a few times on various style related blogs. I know that’s how I was familiar with her, but it wasn’t until Estelle’s recent post that I discovered that she also creates stunningly beautiful, architectural clothing. The colours are neutral and the overall aesthetic minimal, but the shapes are so beautifully constructed that it’s impossible to be bored by the clothing. Her older collections play with layering and unusual cuts, and feel just as fresh four years later. There don’t appear to be any stockists for the clothing yet, but the designer plans to open a web shop sometime this year, and hopefully some expanded press will find her clothing carried in more shops as well. For now, enjoy the clothing posted on her site
Kamilla Richter and Katrin Switala of Richter – Switala combine soft draping with printed geometric shapes in their most recent collection (or at least the most recent collection posted on their website!) to pleasant effect (you know the drill-click the image to enlarge). Since I don’t know German, I was only able to pick up a little information about the pair, and it doesn’t appear that they regularly produce collections, but really I have no idea. Definitely some interesting work and I’m curious to see where they end up
Cerulean perfection from Berlin based designer, Vladimir Karaleev. Masterful draping makes him one to watch. And I lied, blue is really, really growing on me (and as per usual, click the image above to enlarge)
Sorry guys, I was soaking up the sun and blissful heat in Tucson Saturday through Monday, hence no post yesterday.
There are loads of talented unknowns on Irish site, Catwalk Genius, but what’s most unique about the site is the concept behind it. Not only can you purchase works from emerging designers, but you can invest in them as well, which helps fund their next collection. If you become an investor you also share in any profits made through the sale of each collection. I think it’s such a great concept.
The site has a nice selection and there are lots of colourful pieces to choose from. While I love me some neutrals and blacks, I desperately needed some colour given the miserable week upon week of rain we’ve had here in CO for the past month!
