Speaking of embroidery and embellishment, how about the energetic, macro versions by Central St. Martins alumnus Jiwon Jahng? Yes please!
Ok, here’s another designer who does the whole basics reinterpreted thing. You know, classic suit/sport jackets, button up shirts, dress pants and blazers, but in unexpected materials or with unexpected details. And I of course love this because it always forces a second look and it’s a subtly subversive way to wear clothing.
Central St. Martin’s menswear student, Yang Li does this beautifully. If you browse through his ‘Works’ section you can see the inspirations for each collection along with his detailed sketches. Check out his blog as well.

Menswear today! Once again I find myself drawn to collections where the pieces are clean and minimal but possess eye catching details. I think austere would be the best description of Wilfried Mayer’s clothing minus the pejorative connotations. Even the website reflects the monastic quality of the clothing. The tailoring of the clothing is just exquisite.
I’ve posted pieces from the A/W 06/07, S/S 07, A/W 08, and S/S 08 collections, and it doesn’t appear that there is currently anything more recent. Mayer is definitely a designer that deserves more recognition.
