Miroike

Happy to have re-visited Berlin based Miroike’s (I’ve posted about them previously) site and discover that they now have an online shop and clothing. I quite like how they riff on their past collections with each season

Cut-and-Paste Wardrobe: Blissfully Bleached Summer

April 16th, 2010

  • A.P.C. Suede Bag: $412 here
  • Opening Ceremony Crochet Top: $150 here
  • Elsinore Smidth-Carabetta Felt Necklace: $30 here
  • Hope Marian by Lizzie Fortunato Bracelet: $28 here
  • Pleasure Doing Business Bandage Skirt: $138 here
  • Swedish Hasbeens clog boots: $399 here

Yes, I’m still mooning over the perfect combination of neutrals and texture for the upcoming summer. The Opening Ceremony sweater (not really a sweater, more like a hole-y top-ha) about knocked me over when it was added to Anica‘s new arrivals this week. And I love the felt necklace from Pour Porter shop over top-they’re a weirdly perfect combo. Sigh, can I just wear a multitude of variations on white this summer? Anyways, I’m feeling re-energized by the changing season and actually felt inspired to do another cut-and-paste wardrobe again-hope you enjoy!

isobel and cleo

Seeing as I’m a sucker for texture, I had a bit of a heart-stop moment when I happened to wander across isobel and cleo’s etsy shop. It was one of those fortuitous discoveries-although it’s quite easy to come across fantastic stuff on etsy if you have a few hours to spend browsing, which is why I stay away most times because I get sucked into that black hole so easily! (Ah, etsy ♥ forever)

Anyways, creator, Charlotte Hess, makes beautiful pieces bursting with texture and movement and gorgeous, subtle colour. Everything is handmade and made-to-order. Looking at Hess’s Press section on her site, it would appear that she’s captured a lot of people’s attention and rightfully so. It will be quite fun to see what she comes up with next

Trosman

December 28th, 2009

Voluminous draping characterize the work of Buenos Aires based Jessica Trosman, and while the draped look is ever so popular these days, Trosman manages to make her work stand out. This is draping minus edgy and aggressive. The pieces are playful, full of colour and texture, and have a wonderful sense of movement. And from the little I can see on the site, the accessories are inspiring works of art in their own right.

Trosman cites National Geographic and nostalgia for Charles Eames, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Mies Van de Rohe as inspiration, and while you might expect boring minimalist rigidity given the mid-century and modernist architectural references, there is none of that in any of her collections. Hooray for that! I’m excited to watch the label continue to develop. I’ve posted pieces from the S/S 08, A/W 08, S/S 09, and S/S 10 collections, but really you should visit the site to see the complete archives-it’s all quite beautiful. Rue du Mail

July 10th, 2009

Anyone here remember Martine Sitbon? Casablanca born designer who held the designer post at Chloe for a few years and also had her own minimalist, self-titled label? She shuttered her label in 2004, but is back now with Rue du Mail, a label with a soft, minimalist bent that looks like a pleasing natural progression from her past work. While the pieces from this label have a relaxed quality, there is a delicious underlying sharp and structured feel to the clothes.

Plenty of good pieces from all of the seasons so be sure to check them out. I’ve posted a couple of photos from F/W 08/09 and S/S 09. (Warning: The site is clunkily presented in outdated Flash, so be prepared for annoying navigation and snail paced load times.)
