Pour Porter Shop: Introducing Lina Rennell & New Accessories by Dun

March 7th, 2011

The Shop is happy to announce the addition of a new designer to our roster, Lina Rennell. Rennell’s items are distinguished by not only their beautiful prints but their ethically sourced and produced fabrics. She hand makes most of her pieces in her California studio.

We’re also happy to announce brand new items from Jesse Bonny of Dun, who creates all of her jewelry by hand from items she’s grown, harvested, or re-purposed.

Visit the Shop to see!

Remember when I posted about Dun Market, the delicious little webshop run by Jesse Bonny? Well, Jesse being the total sweetheart that she is, agreed to make a few necklaces for the Shop and I’m pretty much super excited to now be offering them. They’re 100% handmade from repurposed materials and gourds grown in Jesse’s own garden. They’re bold, incredibly unique pieces that reflect Bonny’s warm, organic style. Welcome Dun!

Here’s my little confession, Tuesday night when I was supposed to be browsing my bookmarks so I could make a post on Wednesday, I instead spent my time obsessively shopping siphon/vacuum pot coffee makers. So no Wednesday post. HOWEVER, I was very good last night and did my blogging duty so I’m posting! (Some day I will make a post about siphon/vacuum pot coffee makers here ’cause I’m kinda obsessed, you know, like I just said.)

So, yes we’re just plunging into summer, the rainy season has about ended, and the hottest months are still ahead of us but that doesn’t mean that I ever stop the hunt for jackets and coats and the like. I was pretty enthused to find these beautifully colourful raincoats by Danish label, MaxJenny. Yes, I love neutrals, but I am really feeling the colours here. Not to worry though, you chromaphobes, they have a bunch jackets in voluminous black, too. Oh, and I should probably mention that all of their pieces are made from recycled PET bottles and dyed with waterbased colours. You can shop the collections on the site, and all prices are in euros

Apologies for having no memory of where I found this label. I’ve had it bookmarked for awhile and didn’t make any note. Anyways, pretty things from Norwegian label, Fin whose clothing is stylish while being sustainable

I think I’ve mentioned the fact that I’ve been trying to work pattern and colour into my daily wear rotation several times recently. I’ve been somewhat successful and I continue to be on the lookout for designers who create prints that appeal to me. The Osei-Duro print fabric bag I posted in the second outfit in Friday’s Cut-and-Paste post obviously really caught my eye. I really like mudcloth fabric. I recently made a shirt out of some mudcloth fabric I found at a local fabric store, and I’ve a mudcloth fabric bag I bought a few years back from Oak. I like the earth tones and abstract and geometric patterns that typically characterize this textile.

Well, I decided to do a little exploring of the label and found that it’s a project begun by two women, Maryanne Mathias and Molly Keogh, who wanted to create socially responsible, sustainable clothing. This is a popular trend these days, but Osei-Duro goes beyond just using organic materials. Mathais and Keogh were attracted to West African textiles and formed a company that utilizes women’s cooperatives based out of Ghana to create beautiful garments and accessories while paying equitable wages and teaching valuable business skills to the women who produce the pieces. All of the pieces use natural and recycled fabrics.

Creatures of Comfort carries several items by Osei-Duro, but the label has its own online shop and the prices are slightly less
