Odyn Vovk

July 15th, 2009

I’m getting better with posting menswear more frequently. Since the husband is putting his time in with the site redesign, I think it’s only fair I fulfill his posting duties-ha.

I quite like Austin Sherbanenko’s design philosophy for his label, Odyn Vovk. There is no structured theme that guides his collections. Instead, he simply relies on what pops into his head and manages to create very cohesive collections. (This is much how I function myself when I’m engaging in a creative project. I’ve never been able to channel a story or narrative; I mostly rely on a colour, silhouette, scent, texture, a particular feeling, etc. so I can relate very well with Sherbanenko’s creative process.)

Odyn Vovk is another label with a drapey, relaxed minimalist look that relies on layering to create texture and visual interest. Yes, this look is very popular at the moment (not to mention the black Doc Martin combat boots all over), but you won’t hear me complaining. I think it’ll be awhile before I get tired of soft draping and asymmetric layered pieces!

I’ve posted pictures from the S/S 09 and A/W 09 collections (yes I cheated and posted one of the two women’s looks he sent out).

Boessert-Schorn

June 22nd, 2009

Sonia Boessert and Brigitte Schorn of Boessert-Schorn make relaxed and comfortable deconstructed clothing, and it’s a shame their website has such tiny pictures of their pieces.

I like wearable clothes, but most particularly wearable clothes that are interesting, and this label certainly qualifies as such. Most of the pieces are constructed of jersey, wool, and cottons.

Kirrily Johnston

May 19th, 2009

While browsing through Sylvie Markovina’s site the other day, I came across fellow Australian Kirrily Johnston whose online shop carries some of Markovina’s pieces along with her own line. (You can see Markovina’s pieces paired with Johnston’s clothing.)

Anyways, while there is nothing revolutionary here, I’m drawn to Johnston’s draping and neutrals mixed with pops of colour. Her pieces are wearable and relaxed.

I’ve posted pieces from her A/W 09, S/S 08/09, and A/W 08 collections.

Luise and Franck

February 3rd, 2009

Since the latest menswear collections seem to be on the fashion radar, I’m posting some more menswear!

Luise&Franck are a self-described franco east german duo who met at fashion school in Paris and began to develop a menswear line together. They cite psych-folk music and postmodern architecture as inspiration, and produce menswear with a minimalist but texture-rich look. I just like their slouchy, relaxed sensibility!

The pieces below are from their S/S 09 collection.
