If you’ve been following Pour Porter since the old days you’ll remember that I’ve been a longtime follower of Magda Berliner and I’ve posted quite a few times about her over the years. Well, time for another one! What initially attracted me to her pieces was the use of crochet lace and her characteristic loose and easy silhouettes. The Spring Summer 2010 collection is out and her signature crocheted dresses make an appearance along with a lot of layering and print that has a very Rachel Comey feel to it (both designers have always done the eclectic layering thing very well). Whereas S/S 10 is playful and varied, her A/W 10 collection is a bit more spare and minimal, which while not bad, doesn’t seem as true to the designer’s original aesthetic. Of course, in all fairness the A/W collection doesn’t completely eliminate those elements that have come define Berliner’s aesthetic and which I’ve always found particularly appealing. Plus, mixing one’s look up to keep things fresh isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There’s a drop-waist dress with a crocheted skirt and a few pieces with print like the leopard tank and shorts. Anyways, I’m glad she’s still producing collections, and will continue to look forward to the next. (Click pictures to enlarge)
You’d really have to be living under a rock to not have heard of Sunshine and Shadow yet, and most particularly because their latest collection (S/S/ 2010) has essentially been posted everywhere. This is totally understandable given how visually appealing and colour rich the collection is-that’s why I posted it at least! The label always delivers with soft, comfortable, and very wearable pieces so it’s no wonder that their popularity is growing
Hooray! Colour, print, interesting silhouettes! I have to admit I’ve been feeling a bit down lately given the popularity of black and greys and their overwhelming ubiquity. Too much of a good thing is too much! Winter is grey and boring enough as it is and I look to fashion to help me mentally survive the dark, cold, and dreary months. A parade of colours that mimic the weather is not helpful! So I was much relieved to stumble upon Berlin based Hui-hui who offer some beautiful and creative silhouettes popping with prints and colour. I’ve posted looks from both the Summer 2010 and Winter 09/10 collections. Be sure to click the images below to enlarge
UK based Swash is one of the most refreshing finds I’ve encountered in awhile. You know, because as much as I like black and grey, I’ve wearied of the popular aggressive look that’s been so dominant in the past few years. Swash’s printed scarves, bags, and clothes are just gorgeous and inspiring and a sight for sore eyes. You can find a few of their scarves for sale on Liberty of London’s site. I’ve featured their S/S 09 and F/W 09 clothing collections (click the images to enlarge), but visit the site* to see their equally beautiful scarves
*A warning if you visit the Swash site: It has got to be one of the THE WORST Flash built sites I’ve seen since 2001. To make a viewer sit through literally three minutes of load time on a fast connection in the year 2009 (almost 2010) is just pure insanity and they need to fire their designer stat!
I’m one of those fans of big bags. You can fit all sorts of ‘essentials’ in them and still look put together. They’re especially handy when traveling! I think this Obey bag is the perfect summer tote.
