I can’t really understand why I haven’t ever heard of John Rocha before. Not that I’m that particularly on top of everything ‘Fashion’, but I’ve been following the fashion world since my teens, and perhaps I can blame memory loss, but I can’t really ever recall hearing or seeing anything about the designer. Apparently, he’s been around since the 80s and has done quite well for himself (diffusion lines, etc). He’s considered part of the British fashion scene, but Brit fashion isn’t really easy to ignore. Let’s just chalk it up to utter obliviousness on my part! Anyways, his clothing has a floaty, frilly, eccentric sort of sensibility, that I, who wouldn’t be caught dead in something considered frilly, really like. And it’s not really that this clothing is frilly in the traditional sense. I particularly adore his crochet work, which defies all of the conventional granny tablecloth/doily connotations. I’ve posted photos from both his SS 2010 and AW 2010 collections. Both collections could benefit from some editing, but there are some great pieces from both, AW being my favourite (click photo below to enlarge). Definitely click over to the designer’s site, but be warned, it’s incredibly frustrating to browse
A Détacher Fall 2010
As I’ve stated before I don’t generally post about Fashion Week because it’s covered ad nauseum everywhere else, but because I’ve been largely disappointed in what I’ve seen so far for fall in NY this year, I was pretty excited when I saw A Détacher‘s collection (♥ A Détacher-own a pair of booties that are some favourites) . It’s full of texture and warm neutral tones with some lapis blue thrown in. I’ve never been a huge fan of blue-I just don’t think about wearing it that much, but I have to say the jewel tone colour presented in this collection makes me want to wear it a ton more! What do you guys think-do you like blue?
Wow. Every piece from A Piece Apart’s S/S 2010 collection is subtle perfection. NYC based Laura Cramer and Starr Hout have created a line that can go anywhere and be worn with anything. I quite like the play between the deep jewel tones and pale neutrals in the latest collection-it sort of epitomizes summer for me. Gorgeous stuff. (Thanks to Hey Susy for the heads-up on this label!) One of my favourite blogs, gotasalviento, is completely responsible for this find (Nazara always posts the best stuff). While there isn’t a lot of info about the shop itself, from what I can gather by browsing the site, Arts&Science is a Japanese shop that not only has its own line of clothing and accessories, but carries other designers (Berlin label Hut Up looks fantastic) as well. They seem to have quite the presence as I noticed they have brick-and-mortar locations in several cities. The pieces are the kind of items you can wear for years because they’re simple, beautifully constructed, and timeless. Honestly? This is A++ perfection. Yes guys, it’s time to start thinking about summer footwear. As I’m perpetually on the hunt for wedges and flats that don’t make me look like your friendly neighborhood bridge troll, I was happy to discover former industrial designer turned footwear designer, Martha Davis. I’m loving the neutral colours with the occasional splash of teal, and there’s something classic about the silhouettes of all of her shoes. Stockists are listed on the website, and you can view the two previous collections as well
