Rubber & crystal pendant

If you’re a regular reader you know by now that I love quirk and humour so of course I’m drawn to the work of jewelry designer, Marina Elenskaya. I don’t know how I’d pull if off, but I want to wear her McDonald’s fry box pendant as interpreted in rubber and crystal. All of her pieces are quite different and unusual. Mandy Coon

August 27th, 2010

There is an opulent softness to Mandy Coon’s clothing that keeps me from dismissing it as more of the same gothic frippery that’s been dominating fashion circles for the past few years. Yeah, there’s lots of black and black leather, and chains but it’s nicely tempered with a milky peach toned silk, chunky knits, and humour in the shape of a crushed velvet bunny bag. Her silhouettes aren’t aggressively hard-edged and I think that’s what makes the difference

Heal

January 29th, 2010

Remember when I first posted about Heal? Well, I figured it was time for a revisit, and their second collection is just as impressive and quirky as their first. And yes, guys, I am obviously adoring the abundance of colour and print. (The striped dresses and shirts instantly made me think of ANNTIAN‘s F/W 09 collection!). I love that they’re still using the humorous animated gifs to display the clothing. While their reputation is beginning to spread, I’m surprised that they haven’t exploded yet. Their concepts are fresh and original and I can honestly say I eagerly look forward to their next collection. While the first collection referenced the exoskeletons of crustaceans, this one plays with the internal components (ribcage and lungs) of the human body, with some playful beachy themes thrown in for good measure. Be sure to click over to view the full collection. Six more photos after the jump

RosenMunns

December 21st, 2009

rosenmunnsfinal1

More likely than not, most of you have heard of RosenMunns at some point recently. Their star continues to rise as interest in their distinctive, humorous pieces (that seem to owe much to the influence of Maison Martin Margiela) grows. Their pieces are quirky and strange and often smile inducing. The great thing about the label is the anticipation for each new collection-you never know quite what they’ll come up with next. I’ve posted looks from their S/S 10 collection

Quick side note: Due to the holiday week, posting will be sporadic and most likely irregular.

Miroïke

August 17th, 2009

Although bookmarked for some time and I even own a pair of shoes by them, I’ve never posted about Berlin based Miroïke previously because their site didn’t have very good product images. Fortunately, it’s been updated and is much easier to browse plus they’ve added their clothing and accessories collections to the site, as well.

I can attest to the quality of construction and comfort of the one pair of shoes I own, but I appreciate the originality of their designs the most. The clothing is relaxed and wearable and everything the label puts out is tinged with humour.

I’ve only posted items from their accessories and footwear collections, but be sure to visit the site to see their clothing.
