Seelenkleid

March 11th, 2010

Back when I posted about Seelenkleid, not quite a year ago, I hadn’t started to tire of all-black clothing and was just beginning to appreciate an all-white palette. Fast forward not quite 12 months and the monochromatic white silhouette dominates Ella Haberlach’s latest with a sprinkling of midnight blue in the form of delicate devore velvet pieces (second piece below) and melted silicone. Lest you think all-white sounds immensely boring, just have a look at the collection. Haberlach plays with transparency, disintegration, softness and rigidity all to fascinating effect. Select pieces are available at pixie market and Doshaburi. (Don’t forget you can click the images to enlarge.)

Want conceptual fashion overflowing with pedantic exposition? Say hello to Austrian designer Isabelle Steger. Enough with the pretense though-these are quite simply fascinating pieces. Click to enlarge

Fabrics Interseason

Fabrics Interseason is one of those labels I’ve been aware of for several years but for some reason I’ve just never posted about them. The Austrian label is all about high minded conceptual explorations, but really this just means they make plenty of beautiful, smart clothing. FI has been around since 1998 but manages to fly under the radar and their older collections still have a fresh feel.

Layered boxy silhouettes characterize the label’s overall aesthetic. Honestly, I haven’t a clue as to why I’ve never really paid the label much attention because I love everything and find it all incredibly inspiring.
I’ve posted pictures from the S/S 09 collection but you should really visit their site to see more.

Von Sono

August 13th, 2009

Delicate, billowing shapes with fascinating textural details characterize the clothing of Von Sono by German designer Stephanie Oberg. I have to say I love every piece and wish my closet were full of her pieces! Conceptual clothing that’s actually wearable heightens the overall appeal for me.

I’ve posted pieces from the A/W 09/10 collection, but be sure to check out the past projects because there is lots of good stuff there as well (especially summer 2005). You can find the label at Assembly.

Creatures of the Wind

July 8th, 2009

Here’s another conceptual label to wet your cerebral whistle. Chicago based duo Christopher Peters and Shane Gabier create clean pieces that are rife with interesting details (macramé overlay, folds and tucks, and skillful draping) for their label, Creatures of the Wind. The less than a year old label is being very carefully marketed and is currently only stocked at Scout, Hejfina, and Stand Up Comedy (all previously featured here).

Given that they’ve caught the eye of W already, this brand is likely to be one to watch. I wish there were more photos of the F/W 08 collection.
