Quite a few years back British shop, Oki-ni carried womenswear and offered, at the time, a rare selection of cool Japanese denim lines. I even purchased a couple pairs of shoes from them. Then, and I can’t quite remember exactly when (it was a few years ago) they switched completely over to menswear. Let me just say, they’ve only gotten better. Their styling, their selection, and their accessories are all fantastic. I told Brannan, “You should buy all of your clothes from them!” Ha! Their international shipping rates are really reasonable and you can view prices in several different currencies. I’m sure a lot of you have heard of Oki-ni by now, but if not, it’s a must visit

Billykirk

November 12th, 2009

Simple, timeless leather goods produced by brothers Chris and Kirk Bray. Their passion for craftsmanship and hard work has resulted in beautiful accessories that can span the generations. Thanks to Grain Edit’s twitter for the tip on Billykirk. The video after the cut gives a nice overview of the brothers’ philosophy and a look at their workspace

Ashtray

November 4th, 2009

Another post about another shop from Sweden! Stockholm based Ashtray stocks menswear from both large and small brands, Scandinavian and international. This makes for a nice, tight selection that’s easy to browse. The best part though (and all the more reason to shop them) is that they offer free shipping worldwide and obviously knock off the EU tax for their international customers. (I’ve listed prices in U.S. dollars minus the 25% VAT)

12 lbs inc.

July 30th, 2009

I couldn’t find much information about 12 lbs inc., but it appears to be a small, Japanese menswear label that specializes in perfectly worn-in basics like tee shirts and casual jackets in a variety of natural fabrics like linen cotton fleece, organic cotton, cotton cashmere gauze, rib knit, silk waffle, and more. The clothing is released under the name of v:room. I wish I could find more information on them including stockists! I guess I’ll just have to keep an eye open to see if any online shops start carrying the label.

Odyn Vovk

July 15th, 2009

I’m getting better with posting menswear more frequently. Since the husband is putting his time in with the site redesign, I think it’s only fair I fulfill his posting duties-ha.

I quite like Austin Sherbanenko’s design philosophy for his label, Odyn Vovk. There is no structured theme that guides his collections. Instead, he simply relies on what pops into his head and manages to create very cohesive collections. (This is much how I function myself when I’m engaging in a creative project. I’ve never been able to channel a story or narrative; I mostly rely on a colour, silhouette, scent, texture, a particular feeling, etc. so I can relate very well with Sherbanenko’s creative process.)

Odyn Vovk is another label with a drapey, relaxed minimalist look that relies on layering to create texture and visual interest. Yes, this look is very popular at the moment (not to mention the black Doc Martin combat boots all over), but you won’t hear me complaining. I think it’ll be awhile before I get tired of soft draping and asymmetric layered pieces!

I’ve posted pictures from the S/S 09 and A/W 09 collections (yes I cheated and posted one of the two women’s looks he sent out).
