Archive for April, 2010
Yes, this is a repost but it’s been since June of last year and I do so like the latest collection from Ostwald Helgason. There has been a marked move away from digital prints, which is starting to feel a bit trite these days, and a focus on cut. The sharpness is softened nicely with fuzzy plaid mohair-yes please
In other news, we’ve been traveling quite a bit the past few days and my field season has started and that means spotty updates, so apologies in advance for that. I will try to keep to my three times a week routine. In shop news, don’t forget, all you mailing list subscribers, that you have a 10% off code until the end of April. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see several of the items sell out, but that also means they’re not going to hang around very long, so if you’ve had your eye on something be aware that things have been moving rapidly. We’ve also been pretty good at keeping the News section updated and we’re working on getting that set-up as a feed. We’ll also be adding things in the next week or so and are good about posting those updates on twitter and Facebook. Ok enough boring shop talk! Have a great rest of the week everyone.
Thanks to Estelle (great blog and she’s a jewelry designer too!) from One Perfect Morning for this stellar find. Many of you are probably familiar with Anna Sara Davik’s nail rings and gloves, since they’ve popped up quite a few times on various style related blogs. I know that’s how I was familiar with her, but it wasn’t until Estelle’s recent post that I discovered that she also creates stunningly beautiful, architectural clothing. The colours are neutral and the overall aesthetic minimal, but the shapes are so beautifully constructed that it’s impossible to be bored by the clothing. Her older collections play with layering and unusual cuts, and feel just as fresh four years later. There don’t appear to be any stockists for the clothing yet, but the designer plans to open a web shop sometime this year, and hopefully some expanded press will find her clothing carried in more shops as well. For now, enjoy the clothing posted on her site
Yes, I’m still mooning over the perfect combination of neutrals and texture for the upcoming summer. The Opening Ceremony sweater (not really a sweater, more like a hole-y top-ha) about knocked me over when it was added to Anica‘s new arrivals this week. And I love the felt necklace from Pour Porter shop over top-they’re a weirdly perfect combo. Sigh, can I just wear a multitude of variations on white this summer? Anyways, I’m feeling re-energized by the changing season and actually felt inspired to do another cut-and-paste wardrobe again-hope you enjoy!
I came across this painting on ffffound a few days back and was disappointed to not be able to find out who the artist is. It looks like something that might have been posted on but does it float, but when I did a brief search through that blog’s archives I could find nothing. It’s very possible I just didn’t go back far enough. Regardless, I find it quite beautiful (definitely click this image to see it full size)

Hey all, we launched quietly very early Sunday morning and are making the official announcement today. If you’re on the mailing list you should have already been informed! I hope everyone will find something they like from our small, but thoughtfully selected inventory. We had a lot of fun figuring out what to carry at launch and all of the designers I worked with were wonderful. We’ve got a nice mix of recognizable pieces from designers and brands who have gotten a lot of love here recently (Manu by Lauren Manoogian, and Swedish Hasbeens), beautiful, versatile, intriguing classics (Mono), visually and socially inspiring clothing and accessories from just-breaking-onto-the-scene designers (ffiXXed and Osei-Duro), and handmade one-of-a-kind pieces from a couple RISD students with a fresh, artistic perspective (Nora MacLeod and Elsinore Smidth-Carabetta).
We’ve got a lot of exciting things planned for the shop, which I’m mostly going to keep on the dlow until we go live with them, but suffice it to say there will always be something new and interesting to experience at the shop. More immediately, we’ll be adding two new designers in May/June and a few new items each month. I’ll be pretty active with the News section of the shop too where I’ll be posting updates regarding the shop and things that I think you’ll find of interest that aren’t appropriate to post here.
Anyway, click on over to shoppourporter.com and have a look!
