Aio Kotsuhiroi’s rings look like they’ve been ejected by a volcano or brought up by dwarves from Moria. Even more fascinating than their middle earth shapes is the fact that, aside from the obvious crystals and semi-precious stones, they’re mostly made up of human hair, laquered silk thread, and urushi lacquer. The website is a bit frustrating to navigate, but it’s worth taking a browse. Some of the pieces are available for purchase on not just a label’s webshop

Ohhh, love these!
Gretchen,
Yes!
Those are really beautiful, also, great use of unconventional materials.
Golubka,
I was most surprised by the human hair!
P.S. Your blog made me hungry!
Yeahhh, the use of human hair seems to get more and more popular nowadays.
And thank you, I work at the making people hungry thing
Golubka,
Ha, yeah that and horse hair.
That is a most worthy endeavour!
these are great. makes me think of the dark crystal.
Karyn,
You didn’t like my LOTR references?! Ha, yes Dark Crystal indeed. I <3 movie although it scared the crap out of us as little kids.
You said that the website is a bit frustrating… why?
Andrea,
It’s very anti intuitive as far as the navigation goes. It doesn’t make it easy at all for anyone to browse the products, and it requires way too many steps to do so. I know a good web designer who could fix it-haha.
Oh yes?… it’s strange: I really didn’t feel that… Well I think we can’t exactly speak about ‘products’ when we see the pieces… so it’s maybe why the website is not in a ‘classic’ presentation!
