Cut-and-Paste Wardrobe: An Off-the-Beaten-Path New Year’s Outfit

It’s almost New Year’s Eve. Usually, if you’re going out that night, you think sparkly dress, bare legs, and heels. This year, seeing as we’re beginning a new decade, I propose something a bit different yet still appropriately festive AND comfortable. Definitely cannot forget comfort on a night when you’ll likely be imbibing too many alcoholic substances and be in close quarters with loads of equally inebriated strangers. Of course, if you’re into the meat market scene this most likely won’t appeal!

But this outfit is something I’d love to wear on such a night as New Year’s Eve with the pants rolled a bit, a tank for those overheated interiors, and a lighter weight maxi coat for when you have to brave the cold in between stops.
I’ve got an early vet appointment tomorrow, so it’s unlikely I’ll be able to post, but I want to wish all of you who read Pour Porter a happy 2010 with best wishes for a very good upcoming year! Thanks for reading!

Trosman

December 28th, 2009

Voluminous draping characterize the work of Buenos Aires based Jessica Trosman, and while the draped look is ever so popular these days, Trosman manages to make her work stand out. This is draping minus edgy and aggressive. The pieces are playful, full of colour and texture, and have a wonderful sense of movement. And from the little I can see on the site, the accessories are inspiring works of art in their own right.

Trosman cites National Geographic and nostalgia for Charles Eames, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Mies Van de Rohe as inspiration, and while you might expect boring minimalist rigidity given the mid-century and modernist architectural references, there is none of that in any of her collections. Hooray for that! I’m excited to watch the label continue to develop. I’ve posted pieces from the S/S 08, A/W 08, S/S 09, and S/S 10 collections, but really you should visit the site to see the complete archives-it’s all quite beautiful. Blog Note: Back at the Old Sewing Machine

December 23rd, 2009

I’ve started to make things again, and I’ll document my progress from time to time here. I really haven’t done anything since the tiny ‘collection’ I made for a local show in 08 so it feels nice to be back at it. I had been going through an old box of past projects in late summer and got re-inspired to do some embroidery and embellishment again (hence my recent interest in it!). The top below isn’t quite finished so I’ll be posting it later in its completed form. It’s a simple washed cotton with a roomy fit (my favourite kind!). As per usual, you can click the image to enlarge
