Hengst seems to be a label with a fondness for the past given the retro vibe evident in each collection. There are plenty of easy pieces that, while not earth-shatteringly innovative, would make nice additions to anyone’s closet. I’ve posted pictures from the S/S 09 and Fall 2009 collections.
So I guess I’m getting pretty good at this weekly feature thing. Today is a surprisingly nice fall day, given our two feet of snow last week, and it got me thinking about cozy, earth toned outfits (along with yesterday’s post). All this outfit needs now is a cup of spiced hot apple cider. Unfortunately, nothing too reasonably priced, but it’s a nice inspiration springboard for me
I was going to post something different today, but I decided to visit the site of a label I’ve posted about before and I absolutely love the latest collection so I couldn’t resist posting again. And it’s not hard to guess that I’m a big fan of the baggy rolled khakis (yes, I’ve been going on about rolled khakis for the better part of this year!). I also love the use of ikat, which was popular for a hot minute with interior design spreads and bled over a bit into the fashion world a year or so ago. I still like and wear ikat.
This is the thing with the fashion world right now, or at least based on my observations, yes, there are trends (can we knock it off with the cyber/robot/dominatrix/80s/90s redux looks finally?) but really you can wear most things for years now and still look current. I think this realitystudio collection encompasses this style zeitgeist perfectly because you have both the slouchy and skinny look in the same collection.
Anyways, back to this collection specifically. It was apparently inspired by the film Atanarjuat (The Fast Runner), and you can see the influence in the colours and some of the shapes and accessories, but it’s fortunately in no way a literal interpretation. I even see a bit of a Bedouin reference. We were lucky enough to see this film when it was in theaters in 01/02. It’s funny, this film is almost 10 years old, but I’ve seen and heard references to it popping up again recently. If you haven’t seen it, you definitely should!(Be sure to click the images to enlarge)
Another post about another shop from Sweden! Stockholm based Ashtray stocks menswear from both large and small brands, Scandinavian and international. This makes for a nice, tight selection that’s easy to browse. The best part though (and all the more reason to shop them) is that they offer free shipping worldwide and obviously knock off the EU tax for their international customers. (I’ve listed prices in U.S. dollars minus the 25% VAT)
