Kaight

October 14th, 2009

Sustainability, social responsibility, organic materials. I get it. Hell, I was an environmental studies major, and my job is in an environmental field! But, oh how tired I am of the swirling vortex of environmentally related buzzwords that whiz about all things consumer these days.

So instead of banging you all over the head about how more socially conscious you need to be about your clothing choices, I’ll instead direct you to NYC based, Kaight, who prides itself on offering a wide selection of ‘green’, ‘eco-friendly’, and ‘ethical’ clothing and accessories. I’m not gonna lie-of course green is good, I just won’t be feeling all smugly self-righteous when I buy something from them. Seriously though, they’ve got some great items so be sure to visit. South Willard

October 12th, 2009

Ok, here’s a post for the menfolk since I haven’t done that for awhile and Brannan is busy with other things. South Willard is a menswear shop located in LA that’s all about classic, well-made pieces and an unfussy and sophisticated shopping experience. You can find everything from blazers to handmade pashmina scarves, and the selection is extensive but nicely edited. The shop even carries a few pieces that have been made exclusively for them.

Jeffrey Monteiro

October 7th, 2009

I’ll bet everyone here has lost count of how many times they’ve heard/read some stranger, family member, friend, etc. bang on about how important it is to fill your closet with pieces that will work with most everything you own. Blah, blah, boring, right? It may get tiresome to keep hearing it, but alas, it’s true. Of course, staples don’t have to mean unremarkable pieces you won’t remember as soon as you shut your closet door, and it doesn’t mean you can’t have a bit of fun with them. Style and practicality don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Jeffrey Monteiro’s clothing is simple without being mundane. I’m especially loving the pants in the F/W 09 collection. There is a lot in this collection that is incredibly sophisticated, wearable, and essential. (Don’t forget to click the pictures to enlarge.)
