Shop Fatal

May 21st, 2009

Here’s another online shop to help slake your thirst for indie darlings like Henrik Vibskov, Kling by Kling, C. neeon, Bernhard Willhelm , KTZ – Kokon To Zai, and Daniel Palillo to name a few. Shop Fatal has quite a few things on sale at the moment and also carries menswear items.

Awareness and Consciousness

If you’re one who appreciates and is always on the hunt for clothing lines with a cerebral bent, you have to put up with a certain degree of pretentiousness. Whether it’s a long-winded ideological diatribe that accompanies each collection, a vague, art house style film in which the clothes are displayed, or a tongue twister of a label name, it’s impossible to avoid. Not that I’m complaining-I do love a side of the intellectual with my clothing, but sometimes I want to find some intelligent clothing with a name that doesn’t make me giggle when I say it!

Anyways, Austrian designer Christiane Gruber chose the metaphysical referencing name of Awareness and Consciousness for her label. Granted there is no design philosophy or artist’s statement on her site, but these aren’t shallow pieces. Draping and soft, floating silhouettes are the key to her designs, but there is nothing here that is utterly unwearable or simply serves as a vehicle for the designer’s latest brainy obsession.

I’ve posted looks from the S/S 09 and A/W 09 collections.

Kirrily Johnston

May 19th, 2009

While browsing through Sylvie Markovina’s site the other day, I came across fellow Australian Kirrily Johnston whose online shop carries some of Markovina’s pieces along with her own line. (You can see Markovina’s pieces paired with Johnston’s clothing.)

Anyways, while there is nothing revolutionary here, I’m drawn to Johnston’s draping and neutrals mixed with pops of colour. Her pieces are wearable and relaxed.

I’ve posted pieces from her A/W 09, S/S 08/09, and A/W 08 collections.

Daily Wear

May 18th, 2009

So how is this for colour? My older sister gave me these totally ridiculous/fabulous vintage shoes a few years back for Xmas and I’ve never worn them. I love them but I am at a total loss on what to pair them with. I mean, look at them! They steal the show.

I rearranged my closet this weekend, moving my winter shoes to the back of the closet and my summer shoes to the front. Well, I resolved that this was the year I’d wear these shoes. I’m wearing them today, much to the shock and amusement of my coworkers. I’ve paired them with black denim, and a simple white tee with my alex+chloe acrylic necklaces. This definitely brings the attention to the shoes.

So some questions for you, readers:
-How would YOU wear these (or really would you due to their outrageousness)?
-What is the most eccentric item of clothing or accessory in your closet and do you wear it and how?

Tim Van Steenbergen

May 15th, 2009

Tim Van Steenbergen is big on draping and layering and volume. Frankly, some of it seems overly fussy and unfocused; however, there are quite a few pieces that are interesting and even wearable and I found his accessories collections to be the most appealing. If the former first assistant to Olivier Theyskens can sharpen his focus and edit more effectively, he could be designer to watch.

I’ve posted pieces from his Summer 09 and Autumn 08/09 collections. To view some pieces from his accessories collections be sure to click the ‘read more’ link below.
