Merging of the divine and the earthly

haberlach

German designer Ella Haberlach’s line, Seelenkleid is very much conceptually driven. While each collection has its own theme, the overarching narrative centers on the merging of the divine and the earthly. Weighty stuff, no? I’ll leave the dissertation to the concept section of the designer’s website.

Many designers play with the tension between the disparate, but not all are completely successful. Haberlach, however, is consistently successful in manipulating this tension to create beautiful and thought provoking clothing.

The A/W 09/10 collection perfectly captures the line’s celestial/carnal sub-text with all white dresses being slowly infiltrated by creeping ‘sludge’ (love the tights) and gradually transitioning to smoky greys and finally apocalyptic black. So basically, A/W 09/10 is a collection that can please both those who prefer the placidity of white and those who prefer the driving gothy aggression of black (Even though I tend to lean toward the darker end of the spectrum, I’m thinking I like both after viewing this collection!).

The lookbook shots are pretty amazing too, and I wish I could get my hands on those tights. I think I feel a DIY coming on.

Anyways be sure to click the ‘read more’ link as I’ve included quite a few photos from previous collections. The embellishment and details of many of the pieces is pretty amazing so be sure to visit the site also to see them in better detail.
