Knock Out Flatte Polish

February 13th, 2009

I look at quite a few blogs, and unfortunately did not bookmark where I first saw this polish! If you’re a reader let me know, and thank you.

The black ‘flatte’ polish, which dries to a completely matte finish comes from Knock Out Cosmetics, brainchild of make up artist Mike Potter. It’s also offered in a white ‘Powder’ and a pink ‘Calamine’, although when I tried to order the pink it wouldn’t let me add it to my cart, so I’m assuming it’s out of stock.

I really love the matte look! KO claims it’s incredibly chip resistant, but I just painted it on last night, so I have yet to confirm that claim. I’ve never worn black polish before, but this is really growing on me. I’d like to try it in a french manicure style as well-shiny clear on the nail, flatte black on the tip, or flatte black on the entire nail, made shiny on just the tip with clear topcoat.

You can see a bit better the matte look in a disembodied hand shot after the jump. Click ‘read more’ to see.

Daily Wear

February 8th, 2009

I’m going to momentarily put aside the fact that I’m not really liking the black jacket with this whole look, and instead focus on what I do like-rolled khakis. (Ignore all the junk propped on the floor too, it’s headed to another room soon.)

They’ve been popping up all over lately, and since khakis always feel so boring, office conservative, the idea of making them look fresh is more than appealing to me. Of course, you really can’t pull off the rolled look without pairing them with some teetery heels, but that’s not really a problem for me. If I was taller, I could probably get away with flats.

Also, I won’t be posting next week on Monday through Thursday since I have 12 hour training days. I’ll be back next Friday, however!

Potipoti

February 7th, 2009

Berlin, as most of you probably know, is the place to be for fashion, art, and culture at the moment. Spanish designers, Silvia Salvador and Nando Cornejo, have chosen the city as the base for their label Potipoti. Their backgrounds in the visual arts is apparent in their graphic, brash clothing.

Yeah, they fit in nicely with the whole 80s revival hipster crowd, but I’m craving some bright pops of colour with a few more months of winter still left to endure!

Robert Huth

February 5th, 2009

Robert Huth is apparently still studying at London’s Royal College of Art, but I love this look from his pdf portfolio. Such a great mix of textures, and I don’t see how this outfit couldn’t work as womenswear too.

Mary Katrantzou

February 4th, 2009

Recent Central St. Martin’s graduate, Mary Katrantzou’s brilliantly bold graduation collection managed to capture the attention of some big names in the editorial world with her surprisingly mature pieces.

Katrantzou showed a collection that wittily blended digital trompe l’oeil prints with actual hardware to mimic fantastically graphic neckwear. The beautiful saturated colours make you feel like you’re peeking into an extremely stylish eccentric’s jewelry box. (Ha, am I’m laying on the superlatives today!)

Her S/S 09 collection is equally graphic and refreshing. Definitely a designer to watch.

Top two pieces from S/S 09. Bottom two from her graduation collection.
