A couple quick notes for you all: I receive notifications for all comments received, but we don’t have the site coded to and there doesn’t seem to be an add-on that allows threaded comments. So when I respond to your comments you’ll have to check the site again to see my responses. I’ll address you by the username you use to post your comment (my username is bopourporter). I just didn’t want any of you thinking that I’m completely unresponsive!
Tangentially, we’re considering porting the site to WordPress and building it off of that cms as it’s a bit easier to develop on and use. Be looking for a big (yes I know I said it would be small before) redesign in January!

  1. amazing… you dress so interesting. i need a work clothes makeover. i’ve gotten incredibly BORING.

  2. What do you currently use as your publishing platform? I’m thinking of switching to WP. Their comments seem to submit faster, but I need to look into what I can import (I’m assuming entries won’t be a problem, but I’m unsure about comments).

  3. Grace,

Usually, I’m pretty boring, but I’ve been trying lately. It’s just so hard to motivate myself at 4am in the morning. :)

  4. Yulanda,

Brannan built the site using textpattern as the content management system. We don’t use the blog templates-he develops and hand codes the site from scratch (he’s strongly devoted to web standards-ha!), so I can’t give you super accurate information on how the blogging features work. There are add-ons available for WP for threaded comments, and it’s a bit more user friendly, so I’ll have to do less coding when I post.
Sorry I wasn’t more help! Do you use blogger? What features are you looking for?

  5. LOVE IT. If only I could track it down in my size. :(

  6. Ha! I wasn’t convinced until I saw this post, but I ordered that pin from ooga booga and it was in my mailbox within a couple hours. I was shocked, but then I looked at their address and it’s less than 2 blocks from where I live. :\

  7. Currently I’m using Movable Type, but I built my blog’s template since I didn’t like the premade ones. The features are okay — my main issue is with the amount of time it takes to publish a comment. I do like the add-on I have for it right now to help prevent spam though (email whitelister — after I approve an email address, future comments from that email address will automatically be published) so I guess having something similar in WP would be ideal.

  8. Yulanda,

Yeah MT has been left in the dust unfortunately. :( Your best bet is to port to WordPress, and I would assume they have an add-on that takes care of the spam issue. Also you can write into your code (javascript) to prevent spambots from being able to pick up your email address. Hope that helps!
